PETALING JAYA:Honda Asia Dream Racing team rider, Muhd Zahwan Zaidi returned to hold the crown of Asian champion after waiting for six years when he topped the ASB 1000 category at the Asian Motorcycle Championship (ARRC) which closed at Chang Circuit, Buriram, Thailand yesterday.
Although Zaqhwan only finished the second race of the last round of the ARRC in fifth position, it was enough for the native of Selangor to collect a total of 157 points, overtaking his challenger from Japan, Haruki Noguchi who collected 157 points.
The last time Zaqhwan became the Asian champion was in 2016, when he competed in the SS600 category.
“I really don’t know how to describe my feelings when I was crowned Asian champion, but I want to say a thousand thanks to everyone who has supported me all this time.
“I also want to thank the team for helping me prepare the machine with the best tuning for the race in Buriram,” explained Zaqhwan.
Zaqhwan’s victory continues the dominance of the country’s riders in this tournament, considering that Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman who represents Onexox TKKR was named champion in 2019 before this competition had to be postponed for two years due to the spread of the Covid-19 epidemic.
