KEPALA BATAS: The Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate who created a surprise victory in the Kepala Batas parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election (GE15) admitted that young voters contributed a lot towards his victory in the seat.
Dr. Siti Mastura Muhammad, 33, said that she saw young voters as ‘power changers’ or the force of change and that matter was emphasized in every talk during the previous campaign.
“I mentioned that we want to bring a political change for young people especially because many people think this politics is dirty, people don’t like it.
“So, we want to tell young people, this is real politics, which is mature politics. The most important thing is that all citizens can enjoy welfare,” he told reporters after being announced as the winner of the seat last night.
Siti Mastura won after obtaining 28,604 votes with a majority of 2,867 votes over the incumbent of the parliamentary seat, Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican with 25,737 votes.
Two other candidates namely Danial Abdul Majeed (Young – PH) and Hamidi Abu Hassan (Fighter) obtained 14,214 and 747 votes respectively.
Commenting further, Siti Mastura, who is also the Vice-Chairman of the State Pas Muslimat Council, said that the blessing of victory in the GE15 is not to be boasted about or misused to ‘enrich’ oneself.
“But, God willing, with the space and opportunity given by the people of Kepala Batas, I and the machinery request that we both open a new ‘book’ or improve what is available in Kepala Batas.
“Thank you to everyone who voted for me and I pray that Kepala Batas will be the best place for everyone,” he said, wishing to meet as many of his voters as possible after this to express his appreciation for the victory. – MESSENGER
