Veterinary enforcement assistant accused of asking for, accepting a bribe of RM35,000

KUALA TERENGGANU: An assistant veterinary enforcement officer pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to two charges of soliciting and accepting bribes, last year.

The plea of ​​not guilty was made by a former employee of the Terengganu State Veterinary Services Department, Abol As Mohd. Jamil, 43, as soon as the charges were read before Judge Dazuki Ali.

Based on the facts of the first case, the accused allegedly asked for a bribe of RM35,000 from a man as an inducement to lower the charge section for the case conducted in the Sessions Court.

As for the second charge, the accused is accused of having received a bribe of RM35,000 from the same victim.

The accused is accused of committing the offense in a house in Kampung Seberang Takir, Kuala Nerus near here on 27 July and 3 August 2022.

If convicted, the accused can be jailed for up to 20 years and fined not less than five times the value of the bribe or RM10,000, under Section 16(a)(B) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009.

The court allowed the accused to be bailed at RM8,000 for both charges with one surety and set next February 7 as the date for the case to be mentioned again.

The court also imposed an additional condition of reporting to the MACC office every month and submitting his passport to the Terengganu MACC.

The prosecution was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutors, Farah Yasmin Salleh and Nur Athikah Aziz while the accused was represented by lawyer, Mohd. Hazwan Hamidun. – MESSENGER
