PETALING JAYA: UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN) are expected to be decisive in the formation of the government when they hold three important meetings today.
This is despite BN only winning 30 seats in the 15th General Election (GE15), compared to Pakatan Harapan (PH) which won 82 seats and Perikatan Nasional (PN) which controlled 73 parliamentary seats.
UMNO Secretary General, Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said, the UMNO Political Bureau meeting involving the state relations chairman will be held in the morning, while the UMNO Supreme Working Council meeting will be held in the afternoon.
“The immediate step that UMNO will take is to hold these two important meetings. The BN Supreme Council meeting will be held at 8pm,” he said in a statement.
According to the breakdown of parties in BN, UMNO only won 26 seats, MCA two seats, MIC one seat and another seat was won by Arthur Joseph Kurup from Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS).
Early this morning, PN Chairman, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and PH Chairman, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim each claimed to have a sufficient majority to form a government, however, they have not yet revealed which party they are cooperating with. – MESSENGER
