PETALING JAYA: Ng Tze Yong brought the best psychological supplies when he made his debut at the Malaysian Open Super 1000 tournament which takes place from 10 to 15 January next when he is currently ranked 25th in the world.
It is an encouraging improvement for the Johor-born badminton player considering that in January last year he was ranked 60th in the men’s singles world.
Tze Yong refuses to look back and is determined to improve the world ranking this year, thus giving him an advantage in terms of the tournament vote.
“My target is definitely higher this year, so I hope I can achieve it, if I can get into the top 20.
“I think now my stamina has improved but there is still a need for tournaments that I participate in because the standard of the tournament is bigger and I have never played in a big tournament, so I have to be more prepared to play on the field,” explained Tze Yong.
A challenging task for this 22-year-old player because he will face Irish player Nhat Nguyen who is now trained by former Malaysian player Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin.’
If he manages to continue his progress, Tze yong will meet his former senior who is also the second choice of the tournament, Lee Zii Jia and it will be an interesting meeting as both players have never been flat since moving to the senior level.
“I am very excited about the Malaysian Open this year, and I will try to give my best.
“I think all the tournaments I will participate in will be more difficult, not to mention that this year is also the qualification year for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, but I will focus and give my best,” explained Tze Yong.
