LUMUT: Two ships of the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) collided during a demonstration at the 2022 Fleet Open Day (HTA22) at the RMN Lumut Base, yesterday afternoon.
According to a statement from the Strategic Communications Division of the TLDM’s Western Fleet Command Headquarters here today, the incident occurred when members were performing a ‘maneuver’ demonstration to intercept a suspicious boat at the Operation Jetty at the base.
“During the demonstration, a combat boat lost control and collided with Admiral Tan Pusmah’s Royal Ship (KD) which was at the location of the demonstration.
“The incident resulted in the hull of KD Laksamana Tan Pusmah being torn apart along 2 x 1 meters while the battle boat was dented on the bow,” said the statement.
According to the statement, the incident did not cause any casualties or injuries.
He said, the incident also did not affect the HTA22 journey and it will continue as usual according to the program that has been set.
“The TLDM investigation board has been established to identify the real cause of the incident,” said the statement.
Yesterday, a video went viral showing the violation incident during a demonstration involving a gunboat and a helicopter chasing a ‘suspicious boat’ in the jetty area.
HTA22 was held for three days starting yesterday which gave the public the opportunity to enter the Lumut TLDM Base to witness the various events and exhibitions provided. – MESSENGER
