PETALING JAYA: Two senior directors of the company were detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to assist in the investigation into the purchase of shares and the concession acquisition of the Kuala Lumpur Tower Company.
The arrest of the two directors of the company with the title of Datuk, aged between 49 and 59, were arrested this afternoon at the MACC Headquarters.
A source revealed that one of the suspects is the managing director of the company that is said to have taken over the shares of Syarikat Menara Kuala Lumpur.
“The other is a businessman with the position of director of the company acting as a middleman in the acquisition of the company on behalf of the superiors.
“It is suspected that the selection of the company involved involved requests for bribes amounting to hundreds of thousands and a luxury watch as a gift to the ‘superiors’ to help with the takeover,” he said here today.
Previously, the MACC was reported to have conducted an investigation into the issue of the sale of shares and the acquisition of the Menara KL Tower maintenance concession from the company Menara Kuala Lumpur Sdn Bhd, wholly owned by Telekom Malaysia.
Several witnesses including senior officials of Telekom, the Prime Minister’s Department’s Public Private Cooperation Unit (UKAS), the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia and the companies involved have taken statements to assist the investigation.
The source said the two suspects will be brought before the Putrajaya Magistrate’s Court tomorrow for a remand application under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Meanwhile, MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed the arrest and the case was investigated under section 16 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.
He refused to comment further and hoped that all parties would not create any speculation and give full cooperation to this investigation. – MESSENGER
