Tun Juhar took the oath of office as Sabah State President


KOTA KINABALU: Tun Juhar Mahiruddin took the oath of office as Sabah State President for the fourth term at Istana Seri Kinabalu today.

He then signed the oath of office before the Chief Justice of Sabah and Sarawak, Tan Sri Abang Iskandar Abang Hashim.

The ceremony which took place in the Ceremonial Hall was attended by the Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor who also delivered his congratulations and pledge of allegiance.

Present with the Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Joachim Gunsalam; Sabah State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker, Datuk Seri Kadzim M. Yahya; State Cabinet Ministers; State Government Secretary, Datuk Seri Safar Untong and heads of departments.

Tun Juhar, 69, was first appointed as the 10th Yang Dipertua Negeri Sabah on 1 January 2011.

On 23 December last, Tun Juhar received the Letter of Appointment to continue his two-year term of service from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah at Istana Negara, Kuala Lumpur.

Tun Juhar is the first State President to be entrusted with the position more than 10 years after the amendment of the Sabah State Constitution Bill (RUU) was carried out in 2018.

Through the bill, the Sabah State Government approved an amendment abolishing the two-term term limit for the appointment of the State President. – MESSENGER
