Travelers from outside including China must go through screening

PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Health (MOH) has stipulated that all travelers arriving from abroad, including China, at the International Port of Entry (PMA) must go through a fever screening.

Its minister, Dr Zaliha Mustafa said, those who are detected with fever or symptoms or self-referrals will be referred to the quarantine center or the health department for re-examination.

He said, if the traveler is suspected of having Covid-19, then a Covid-19 test will be carried out.

“In addition, surveillance at PMA was also strengthened by taking sewage water samples from planes coming from China.

“Sewage water samples will be sent to the National Public Health Laboratory (MKAK) for PCR testing and then sent for genome sequencing if detected positive for Covid-19,” he said through a press release today.

He said, that is one of the measures that will be implemented to strengthen Malaysia’s preparedness following the current situation and changes in the Covid-19 management policy in China.

Zaliha said that in order to detect any new variants, all cases of ILI and SARI who seek services at a health facility and have a history of travel to China or contact with individuals from China within 14 days must undergo an RTK-Ag test.

Zaliha said that the results of the RTK-Ag Covid-19 test will then be sent for genome sequencing if positive for Covid-19.

According to him, the Ministry of Health is constantly monitoring the current situation of the development of the Covid-19 infection at an international level, particularly through the latest press conference by the World Health Organization (WHO). – MESSENGER
