LARUT: Perikatan Nasional (PN) will hold a meeting this afternoon to discuss issues related to the Tioman State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seat.
PN Secretary General, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said, discussions among the top leadership of PN were held following the death of a candidate from the coalition, Md. Yunus Ramli early this morning.
He said, among other things, the discussion will discuss the new candidate for the seat if required to do so.
“Today we have a meeting in Kuala Lumpur, I will discuss this matter to put a new candidate if called to nominate a candidate.
“This is a normal process if any candidate dies, to be discussed at the highest level of PN,” he said when met by reporters after voting at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sungai Bayor in Rantau Panjang, Selama, here today.
Commenting further, Hamzah said that the selection of new candidates for the Tioman state seat will be given priority to candidates from PAS first.
“If Pas says yes, we have a candidate, then we continue because in this matter, it doesn’t matter if the seat is Pas, Bersatu (Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia) or Gerakan, the important thing is that we find a candidate of caliber,” he said.
Media previously reported, Md. Yunus, 61, is believed to have died at 3.30am due to heart complications.
The deceased reportedly complained of chest pain and was taken to Rompin Hospital by his son to receive treatment at 3 am.
Following the incident, voting for the Tioman state assembly seat was postponed to a date to be announced later. – MESSENGER
