KOTA KINABALU: Leaders of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) are ready to prove the validity of their support for Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor as Sabah Chief Minister if necessary.
GRS Secretary General, Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said, Hajiji has received the certificate and support from the vast majority of Sabah State Assembly Members to continue leading the current state government. It includes all seven Pakatan Harapan (PH) Sabah assemblymen.
He said this following allegations that certain parties had obtained support to form a new state government.
“It is understood that there are certain parties who claim to have obtained the support of more than half of the Sabah assemblymen to enable this group to establish a new government.
“The atmosphere and political position in Sabah remains stable and safe for business and investment,” he said in a statement today.
Allegations regarding the movement to establish a new government in Sabah have been raised several times since the leadership of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Sabah announced his departure from the party on December 10 and remained a member of the GRS.
Currently, the government bloc consisting of GRS and Barisan Nasional (BN) at the state level is still in a comfortable position with 53 seats out of 79 Sabah state assembly seats, including six appointed assemblymen and assemblymen who are friendly to the government.
The opposition bloc only has 26 seats, however, seven Sabah PH leaders have expressed their support for Hajiji to continue to govern Sabah until the end of his term. – MESSENGER
