There are local coaches selling licenses, so puppets

PETALING JAYA: President of the Football Coaches Association of Malaysia (PJBM), B. Sathianathan revealed that three Malaysian League (M League) teams are using the services of local coaches as puppets to manage their respective squads in the 2023 season.

Sathianathan described them as puppets because they were willing to ‘sell the license’ owned by registering as team managers, however, the fact is that the squad is managed by other individuals who do not have a Pro-A license as required by the Malaysian Football League (MFL).

According to Sathianathan, a similar situation also occurred involving the M3 League when there were local coaches who acted to sell their licenses to enable certain teams to appoint foreign managers thus violating the guidelines set by the Amateur Football League (AFL).

Sathianathan insisted, the three teams each involved two from the M3 League, while the other played in the Super League.

“PJBM has reminded local coaches not to put their self-esteem too cheap by selling their license to be manipulated by other parties.

“As we have received reports that some local coaches accepted the offer of a certain club as the head coach but the opposite happened when a foreign coach played that role,” he said.

“Don’t local operators become puppets when tasks such as training and player formation are done by foreign coaches thus violating the conditions set by the AFL, he said when met at the PJBM 2022 Annual Congress for the term 2018-2022 yesterday.

Commenting on actions that can be taken by PJBM as an association that looks after the welfare and needs of local coaches, Sathianathan explained that this situation needs to involve the team’s management and coaches themselves.

“PJBM does receive reports, but cannot take action. In this situation, I blame both sides, namely the team management and the coach,” he said.

In the meantime, Sathianathan also advised local coaches not to accept the club’s offer to appoint them as puppeteers next season.

“This matter should be dealt with immediately so that they do not follow other teams and thus affect the quality of football in the country and do not arbitrarily sell their licenses to become puppet operators,” he said. – ONLINE MESSENGER
