MACHANG: A mechanic died after the motorcycle he was riding was hit by three cars while stopping to turn into a junction at Kilometer 43, Jalan Kota Bharu-Kuala Krai near the Kemuning junction here last night.
In the incident at about 8.10pm, the victim, Nabil Iqbal Rahman, 23, died at the scene of the incident when he was thrown onto the road after being hit by a Perodua Kancil driven by a salesman.
Machang District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohd. Adli Mat Daud said, in addition, the Honda Wave 125S motorcycle ridden by the victim was also hit by two other cars from the opposite direction which did not have time to avoid the crash.
According to him, the initial investigation found that the victim was riding a motorcycle alone while traveling from Kuala Krai towards Kota Bharu.
“While arriving at the scene of the incident, the victim is believed to have stopped his motorcycle in the middle of the road to turn to the intersection on the right side of the road.
“However, a Perodua Kancil type car from the same direction crashed into the back of the motorcycle. At the same time, a Perodua Bezza and a Proton Wira from the opposite direction did not have time to avoid the crash before hitting the victim’s motorcycle,” he said in a statement just now.
Mohd. Adli, told that the victim’s body was sent to Machang Hospital here for an autopsy before being handed over to his family.
He said, further investigation found that the accident was believed to be caused by the negligence of the driver of a Perodua Kancil type car, not using the legal lane and hitting a motorcycle that was on the way to enter the junction to the right of the road.
“The case is investigated according to Section 41(1) of the Transport Act 1987,” he said.-MESSENGER
