The maximum price of bottled cooking oil remains

PUTRAJAYA: The price of pure palm cooking oil in one, two, three and five kilogram (kg) bottles for the period from January 8 to February 7 will be maintained.

According to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), the maximum price of bottled cooking oil remains even though the average price of crude palm oil (CPO) in the world market increased last December.

“The government would like to thank the players in the pure palm cooking oil industry through the negotiations that were carried out to agree to maintain the retail price of bottled pure palm cooking oil at the existing price as a joint effort to help the people reduce the cost of living.

“The government through KPDN has set the latest maximum retail price for bottled pure palm cooking oil under the Price Control and Anti-Profitability (Determination of Maximum Price for Cooking Oil) Order 2022.

“This price control is implemented according to the moving ceiling price method based on the average world crude palm oil price,” he said in a statement today.

He explained that the maximum retail price for the period is RM6.90 for a 1 kg bottle, RM13.30 (2 kg), RM19.60 (3 kg) and RM30.90 for five kilograms.

KPDN said, any party found to sell above the maximum price can be taken action under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 and individuals can be fined by the court up to RM100,000 or imprisoned for not more than three years or both, while for companies can fined up to RM500,000.
