PUTRAJAYA: Employers across the country who are in dire need of foreign workers are expected to enjoy a faster recruitment process with a target period of just 30 days.
This was the assurance voiced by the Minister of Home Affairs, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail at a special press conference together with the Minister of Human Resources, V. Sivakumar.
“Imagine it used to take months and even more than a month to advertise for foreign workers, but after this we aim to complete it in just 30 days,” he said.
Earlier, they both chaired a Special Meeting of the Joint Committee on the Management of Foreign Workers at the Ministry of Human Resources (KSM) here today following the Cabinet’s decision on December 7 and 21 last year to re-align management and the appropriateness of appropriate relaxation in order to drive the country’s economic growth back. this year.
Three proposal papers have been presented which cover functional adjustments led by the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN), relaxation of procedures and actual employee projections.
The issue is described by employers as very critical, especially the plantation sector which is reported to desperately need about a million additional workers in palm oil estates.
Commenting further, Saifuddin said that the government is aware of the complaints of various sectors and hopes that the previously very long process time will be speeded up.
“We see that there is actually a lot of space that can be shortened and all agencies involved have been instructed to submit proposals in the near future for implementation,” he said.
Asked when the matter would start to be done, he expected the issue to be finalized in the first quarter of this year and should not be delayed any longer.
KSM was also given a role in the issue of empowering foreign energy from 15 source countries in addition to facilitating related matters, especially the approval of quotas by sector.
At the same time, KDN said he will ensure that the aspect of rule of law is strengthened and guarantee that all foreign workers are fairly protected in their rights.
He hopes that the smooth influx of foreign energy will drive the country’s economy with a targeted increase of about one percent of the Gross Domestic Product. – MESSENGER
