KUALA TERENGGANU: Perikatan Nasional (PN) Terengganu expressed its desire to hold State Elections (PRN) in March or May after taking several factors into account.
PN Terengganu State Elections Director, Ariffin Deraman said, initial discussions have been held at the leadership level and so far there are several dates that are deemed appropriate to dissolve the Terengganu State Legislative Assembly (DUN) to make way for PRN.
“The first option is that we dissolve the state assembly in February after the Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) ends and the PRN is held in March. The second option is to dissolve the DUN after the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations are over, which is in April so that the PRN can be held in May.
“At the moment, those are the two best time options for us to hold PRN and I am confident that it will not be held until the Terengganu DUN term ends in June,” he said after officiating the launch of the Terengganu State Tourism and Culture Calendar of Annual Events (COE) 2023 here today.
Terengganu currently has 32 state assembly seats with 22 of them won by PAS while the remaining 10 seats were won by UMNO in GE14.
Ariffin said that PAS is also still detailing the distribution of seats with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia to face the PRN this time.
“It is still too early to reveal the number of seats that Pas and Bersatu will contest, but I am confident that it will not be a big problem because we have worked together in the past 15th General Election (GE15),” he said.
Ariffin, who is also a member of the Alor Limbat State Legislative Assembly, said Terengganu PN is also confident that it can sweep all 32 seats in the state assembly because the results of the analysis made in GE15 prove that the target can be achieved.
“If we break down the votes at the parliamentary level to the state assembly, we have actually won 31 state assembly seats. PAS only lost in one seat which is Telemong with a very slim majority of only 600 votes and I am confident that by the time of PRN, the figure of 32-0 will be achieved,” he said. – MESSENGER
