Space hope KUSKOP is maintained

SHAH ALAM: Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Berhad (space) hopes that the new government will maintain the Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Cooperative Development (KUSKOP) for the sake of the sustainability of the national economy and local entrepreneurs.

Its board member, Datuk Mohamad Ali Hasan said, such measures are necessary to help small entrepreneurs and contribute to the betterment of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

He said, the establishment of a cooperative institution that is already 100 years old has only produced GDP amounting to three percent so far.

“However, the existence of a special ministry related to cooperatives is believed to be able to contribute to double figures like other developed countries.

“Therefore, we hope that KUSKOP can be continued in order to generate economy and job opportunities for many parties, especially in rural areas,” he said when met after officiating CoopFarmasi-Koputra in Setia Alam here, today.

According to Mohamad Ali, Angkasa and the cooperative movement across the country hope that the sector will be given attention by the new government.

“Cooperatives are institutions that are always relevant in contributing to the well-being of life despite facing various economic challenges.

“As of last June, there were more than 14,000 cooperatives and their membership reached about 20 percent of Malaysians,” he said.

He added that the leadership of the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to further strengthen the role and contribution of cooperative institutions to inclusive, fair and competitive socioeconomic development.

“As a cooperative movement recognized by the government, Angkasa supports the new leadership and will continue to strengthen the cooperative relationship more closely.

“The Unity Government is expected to help solve the people’s living needs, especially efforts to deal with the increase in the cost of living,” he said. – MESSENGER
