[SIDANG DUN] The Kelantan water issue is not a failure, but an implementation problem

KOTA BHARU: The state government explained that the issue of clean water supply in the state is not a failure but rather related to implementation problems.

Deputy Chief Minister of Kelantan, Datuk Mohd. Amar Nik Abdullah said the problem was caused by financial constraints that had been happening since 1990.

According to him, however, throughout the 30-year period, various efforts were implemented by the state government to solve the problem.

“In 2016, the state government agreed to move water migration to the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) and Pengurusan Aset Air Bhd. (PAAB). At that time, we need spending amounting to RM2 billion to solve this problem.

“But, unfortunately…even though we signed the agreement, however, the allocation of RM2 billion did not go to the state of Kelantan. There are technical issues that do not need to be mentioned here (DUN),” he said when answering an additional question from Bukit Bunga State Assemblyman (ADUN) from Barisan Nasional (BN), Datuk Adhan Kechik about the state government’s failure to solve the water problem in Kelantan. .

Mohd. Amar said, as a result of the current budget in 2022, the state government needs a total expenditure of RM7 billion compared to RM2 billion to solve the problem before.

He said, despite getting approval on the amount of the allocation, efforts to solve the problem will definitely take time because the problem of clean water supply in the state has been going on for too long.

“It’s just that his efforts will not last for 20 or 30 years. That is why there needs to be a good relationship between the state government and the Federal Government.

“This problem of allocation not being obtained, as we know, is a political problem. Because of that, it is necessary to correct this political problem to facilitate efforts to solve the water problem,” he said.

The Panchor assemblyman said that the state government always carries out continuous efforts to solve related problems and if the Federal Government is more open.

“If the Federal Government takes an open attitude and knows that the responsibility of developing this state is a shared responsibility, I believe many problems can be solved,” he said. – MESSENGER
