Shahadah documentary won recognition at Cannes

KUALA LUMPUR: Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) recorded a double success when the documentary program Syahadah produced by the RTM Magazine and Documentary Unit won the Best Short Documentary Film at the Cannes World Film Festival (CWFF), last Monday.

The same episode of the documentary titled Hijrah Muhibah (Migration Goodwill Malaysia), was previously crowned as the winner of the Best First Time Short Documentary category at the Bangkok Short Documentary International Awards (BKK Short Doc), last November 30.

The producer of the program, Azry Ahmad Mustafa Hadi, said that the two major successes at the international level became the driving force for RTM in generating opportunities to produce world-class material.

“We are happy when this local product is raised at the world level,” he said in a statement.

The documentary was filmed from 14 to 17 February last for four days around Lutong, Miri, Sarawak.

It records the reality of the Muslim and Christian communities in Lutong who practice the spirit of goodwill.

Azry said that the documentary featured the migration of religious teacher, Mohd. Zulkifli Mohd. Adnan from Terengganu to Lutong on the advice of his religious teacher and parents.

However, that temporary migration changed when he became a permanent resident after experiencing a life of goodwill there.

“The spirit of goodwill of the community in Lutong anchored the heart of Mohd. Zulkifli to continue to stay and contribute energy for religious education. Hijrah Muhibah really happened to him.

“His presence is greatly appreciated by the people of Miri who practice the good spirit of harmony and tolerance between religions,” he said.

RTM will re-show Hijrah Muhibbah on TV1 starting at 10.30 tonight. The program can also be watched through Okey TV at 4.30 pm, this Sunday.
