Seleweng diesel used for rental tankers

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Rent a tanker just to divert diesel by earning between RM200 to RM300 a day.

That’s the modus operandi that was successfully detected by the Penang Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) office following a raid at a gas station in Jalan Kulim here, at about 4.30pm yesterday.

Its director, S. Jegan, said the raid was carried out as a result of daily monitoring and inspections carried out previously.

Earlier, he said, four state KPDN law enforcement officers tracked down a 6.5 ton white tank truck without a suspicious load that was filling up with diesel.

He said, as a result of the inspection, the lorry had a 10,800 liter capacity iron tank unit at the back and an 800 liter capacity tank unit on the side which was used to fill diesel from petrol stations.

“Further inspection later found about 1,800 liters of diesel in both tanks.

“At the same time, the driver and driver of the lorry, who are in their 20s and 30s respectively, were also arrested and they confirmed that they had rented the tanker for the purpose of embezzlement (diesel) for the past two months,” he told reporters here today. this.

Jegan said the total estimated value of the loot and seizure in the raid included tankers, diesel, motor pumps, hoses, mobile phones, walkie-talkies and a sum of cash estimated at RM35,719.

He said the case will be investigated under the Supply Control Act 1961, which if found guilty can be fined up to RM1 million or imprisoned for up to three years or both for the first offence.

For the second and subsequent offences, he added, can be fined up to RM3 million or imprisoned for not more than five years or both.

Meanwhile, he said, for organizations or corporations, a fine of no more than RM2 million for the first offense and RM5 million for the second and subsequent offenses can be imposed if convicted.

“Currently, the investigation is still being carried out to identify if there are other members of the syndicate involved in this activity (diesel embezzlement),” he said, adding that the two arrested have now been remanded for further investigation.

In the meantime, Jegan reminded any party that tries to misuse subsidized controlled goods such as diesel that they will be subject to strict action and welcomes any information or complaints regarding such activities from the public. – MESSENGER
