Ronaldo, Georgina are allowed to live together in Saudi Arabia

RIYADH: Cristiano Ronaldo and his partner, Georgina Rodriguez will get the approval of Saudi Arabia’s strict law on unmarried couples to live together.

The 37-year-old joined Al Nassr on a two-and-a-half-year deal worth 173 million pounds (RM906 million) a season after his contract at Manchester United was terminated by mutual consent.

Ronaldo sparked outrage at Old Trafford in his interview with Piers Morgan after accusing United of betrayal while revealing he had no respect for manager Erik Ten Hag.

Ronaldo was announced as an Al Nassr player earlier this week with his partner Georgina who has been with him for over six years and his family in attendance at the Mrsool Stadium which was filled with 25,000 supporters of the club.

However, with the couple not married and living together, they would technically be breaking Saudi Arabian law.

CRISTIANO Ronaldo and his family received a warm welcome when they were introduced to Al Nassr supporters at Mrsool Park Stadium, Riyadh yesterday.

There are reports that Ronaldo, who is the father of five children including two from his relationship with Georgina, will be approved to live together due to his status as one of the most famous athletes in the world.

The report went on to quote two Saudi Arabian lawyers, who predicted the authorities would not intervene.

“Although the law still prohibits cohabitation without a marriage contract, the authorities have started turning a blind eye and not persecuting anyone. Of course this law is used when there is a problem or crime.

“The Saudi Arabian authorities, today, do not intervene in this matter (in the case of foreigners) but the law continues to prohibit cohabitation outside of marriage,” said the lawyer involved.

Ronaldo is yet to make his debut in West Asia as Al Nassr are unable to register him as they have exceeded their quota of foreign players.

This means the club will have to either sell or fire one of their overseas players before the Portuguese star can feature.

“Al Nassr has not registered him because there is no vacancy for foreign players.

“Foreign players have to leave the club to allow Ronaldo to be registered, either by selling or terminating the contract by mutual agreement,” said an Al Nassr official. – AGENCIES
