Residents are annoyed by strange noises in Gunung Mereki

GORONTALO: Villagers are alarmed after hearing loud explosions and ground movements detected around Mount Mereki in the Bone Bolango region of Gorontalo over the past few days.

The clear Aladi River also became murky causing the residents to become increasingly upset because they depend on the water source in the area to carry out their daily activities.

Report Compass.coma large number of residents of Kampung Pelita Hijau together with the Bone Bolango District Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and Bone Pantai Sub-District Head made an inspection and climbed the mountain to find out the true cause of the strange noise.

Before this, the residents also did their own inspection in the area and found piles of rocks like rubble that still contained water underneath and recorded the phenomenon through their mobile phones.

“We the residents of Kampung Pelita Hijau have directly checked what the residents complained about the movement of soil mixed with mud that caused Sungai Aladi to become more cloudy.

“There are 10 of us who went into the forest to climb Mount Mereki and when we crossed the very difficult journey we found the land in pieces with an area of almost two hectares,” said a resident, Abdul Rahman Barisi on his social media account.

Abdul Rahman and the group also found a half-hectare mud pile under the summit of Gunung Mereki, about 300 meters from the Aladi river and feared that the situation could block the flow of the river and trigger a bigger landslide.

“Residents are worried that if Sungai Aladi is closed, a major disaster will befall the villages below it. We ask the government to immediately take action to overcome this problem,” he explained.
