Prohibition of recreation, temporary bathing in the forest of Selangor

SHAH ALAM: Any recreational activities including bathing and camping in forest areas and Taman Eko Rimba in Selangor are temporarily prohibited.

The ban follows the closure of all picnic and camping places issued by the Selangor Government Secretary’s Office on December 17 due to bad weather and the monsoon season.

In fact, the notice since last October is still in effect until a period to be announced later.

The director of the Selangor State Forestry Department (JPNS), Datuk Ahmad Fadzil Abdul Majid said, a Notice of Instruction to Close Operations in all recreational forest areas under his management was also issued.

“The move is in line with Section 47, Enactment (Application) of the Selangor State Forestry Act 1985 (Amendment 2018) which is about the prohibition of individuals entering permanent forest reserves without a valid permit.

“If convicted, he can be fined not more than RM30,000 or imprisoned for up to five years or both,” he said in a statement today.

Ahmad Fadzil added, the public can contact JPNS for any matters and further inquiries on the matter.

Utusan Malaysia yesterday reported that the picnic of seven University of Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) students in Sungai Chiling, Peretak Kuala Kubu Bharu, Hulu Selangor turned into a tragedy when two of them were found drowned.

The first victim was brought up by friends in an unconscious state before the firemen gave breathing aid and was pronounced dead.

Meanwhile, the second victim was found by firefighters who searched around the area at 12.45 in the afternoon. The two bodies were handed over to the police and taken to the Kuala Kubu Bharu Hospital for an autopsy. – MESSENGER
