PNB launches new unit trust fund, ASN Sukuk

PORT DICKSON: The unit trust management company wholly owned by Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB), Amanah Saham Nasional Berhad (ASNB) launched a fixed income unit trust fund (ASN Sukuk) today.

Chairman of the PNB Group, Tun Arifin Zakaria said, ASN Sukuk targets investors with a low level of risk tolerance who tend towards stable income in the medium to long term.

“This new variable price fund focuses on investing in various portfolios of Sukuk (Islamic income instruments).

“Of which 80 percent to 99 percent of the Net Asset Value (NAV) of the fund is concentrated in Sukuk class assets including Government Investment Issues,” he said when speaking at the MSAM 2022 Opening Ceremony at Kawasan Lapang Pantai Batu 1, here today.

Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of Amanah Saham Nasional Berhad (ASNB), Muzzaffar Othman said the new unit trust fund offers investors a stable alternative investment.

“In a global market environment that is expected to remain volatile in 2023, fixed income assets are an attractive value proposition for investors looking for a stable overall portfolio.

“This new fund has some of the characteristics of existing ASNB unit trust funds that will attract investors to own a Sukuk investment portfolio including a minimum investment of RM10 followed by an additional investment as low as RM1,” he said at a press conference here.

Muzzaffar explained, ASN Sukuk allows unit holders to complete and diversify their existing investment portfolio in ASNB to build a more balanced portfolio.

“ASN Sukuk will take advantage of the rising interest rate environment as an attractive starting point to collect Sukuk or income instruments to generate potential future returns.

“In comparison, other ASN Sukuk stock markets are less risky than other stock markets, for example if you invest as much as RM1,000 the money will remain as we use government bonds with additional dividends in the long term,” he said.

According to Muzzaffar, from 25 November 2022, investors can subscribe to ASN Sukuk online on the myASNB portal and mobile application, internet banking of ASNB agents or through counter services at all ASNB branches and agents nationwide.

“The initial offer price of the fund is set at RM1 per unit during the initial offer period of 21 days until 15 December 2022.

“In conjunction with the launch of this fund, investors can also enjoy a lower sales charge of 1 percent for any amount of investment made through counter services at ASNB branches and agents nationwide until March 31, 2023,” he said.

PNB is targeting more than 150,000 visitors at MSAM 2022 which takes place today until 30 November 2022 in Port Dickson.

MSAM 2022 this time provides various investment education activities and exhibitions with the participation of approximately 50 exhibitors consisting of PNB Group companies, ASNB agents, regulatory bodies and state government agencies. – MESSENGER
