PN added 10 parliamentary seats in Kedah

ALOR SETAR: Perikatan Nasional (PN) almost swept all the Parliamentary seats in Kedah in the 15th General Election (GE15) involving 14 seats except for Padang Serai where voting was postponed.

A total of 10 new seats went in favor of the coalition compared to the three seats won by PAS in the last GE14.

PAS representatives who competed in nine constituencies won all the seats for PN including defeating big names from other parties, while four candidates from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) also won.

Among the winners are the Kedah Pas Commissioner, Datuk Ahmad Yahya at Pokok Sena and Bersatu Kedah Chairman, Datuk Mohd. Suhaimi Abdullah in Langkawi.

Both of them each defeated the Chairman of the Pejuang Tanah Air Party (Pejuang), Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad (Langkawi) and the Vice President of Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah), Datuk Mahfuz Omar (Pokok Sena).

The Chairman (YDP) of the Jerlun Area Pas, Dr. Abd. Ghani Ahmad defeated Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir in Jerlun and Guar Chempedak state assemblyman Datuk Ku Abd. Rahman Ku Ismail defeated Datuk Amiruddin Hamzah in Kubang Pasu.

In addition, Kedah Pas Youth Leader, Nurul Amin Hamid also created a sensation in Padang Terap when he managed to break through the stronghold of Barisan Nasional (BN) until the incumbent, Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid who is also the UMNO Vice President accepted defeat.

The Political Secretary to the Menteri Besar of Kedah, Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden managed to overcome the challenges of his six rivals in the seven-cornered clash in Alor Setar, while Deputy Commissioner II Kedah Pas, Dr. Ahmad Fakhruddin Fakhrurazi won in Kuala Kedah.

Meanwhile, Datuk Awang Hashim, Sabri Azit and Ahmad Tarmizi Sulaiman retained Pendang, Jerai and Sik which they won in GE14 when they defeated their respective opponents including Kedah Barisan Nasional (BN) Chairman, Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom and Kedah UMNO Information Chief, Datuk Suraya Yaacob.

In the meantime, YDP Pas Kawasan Baling, Hassan Saad also won in the Parliament, thus defeating the incumbent, Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim.

Two more Bersatu representatives, Mohd. Nazri Abu Hassan (Merbok) and Roslan Hashim (Kulim Bandar Baharu) who are also new faces won their respective seats with Roslan defeating PKR Secretary General, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

However, only one PN candidate, Dr. Robert Ling Kui Ee failed to give victory to the coalition when he lost to Pakatan Harapan (PH) representative Mohamed Taufiq Johari in Sungai Petani.

Meanwhile, the GE15 voting process for the Padang Serai Parliament will only be held on December 7 following the death of PH candidate M. Karupaiya two days before voting day, yesterday. – MESSENGER
