Perak UMNO has not decided on the position of President, Deputy to be contested

IPOH: Perak UMNO has not made a position regarding whether the positions of President and Deputy President of UMNO will be contested or not in the party’s election.

Perak UMNO chairman, Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said the matter will be discussed first in the Perak UMNO Liaison Body meeting scheduled for January 8.

According to him, Perak UMNO’s stance on the matter is also subject to the decision of the party’s Supreme Working Council (MKT) which is scheduled to meet on January 5.

“Perak UMNO has not made a decision because we will only hold a Liaison meeting on January 8 and MKT will meet on January 5.

“We will discuss with the Supreme Council first, look at the situation because there are pros and cons, some say it’s good and some say it’s not good, we’ll see the situation,” he said.

He was met by reporters at the presentation of the education fund contribution to the national sprinter, Muhammad Azeem Mohd Fahmi and incentives to the Perak hockey team at his office here today.

Meanwhile, Saarani, who is also Menteri Besar, said the state government will not restructure individuals who hold high positions in state government-linked companies (GLCs) or state statutory bodies following the change of state government after the 15th General Election (GE15).

According to him, this is because the Menteri Besar before GE15 and now is himself, the same individual.

He said, there was also no change to the appointment at the GLC on the basis that he was satisfied with the performance shown by the appointed individual.

“Often when there is a change, if the Menteri Besar is a different person but the Menteri Besar is the same person, I am satisfied with the performance of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in the GLC in Perak.

“Whether in PKNPk (Perak State Development Corporation), MB Inc. (Menteri Besar Corporation), Perak SADC (Perak State Development Corporation), and LAP (Perak Water Board), so I will keep their appointments,” he said.

According to Saarani, the highest-ranking individual in the Perak GLC is retained because many programs have been implemented jointly, including programs in the form of re-evaluation for the purpose of improvement.

“All the posts are basically appointed on a bi-annual contract that is every two years and some of the posts have just been renewed during GE15,” he said. – MESSENGER
