SEREMBAN: The State Election (PRN) for Negeri Sembilan may be held after the middle of this year when the mandate obtained in the 14th General Election (GE14) expires.
Labu State Assembly Member Datuk Ismail Ahmad said he came to that conclusion because the people had just finished going through the 15th General Election (GE15) process in November last year.
He who is also the Chairman of the State Rural Development Action Committee said, at the same time, the remaining period of approximately six months can be used by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government in the state to fulfill several promises that have not been fulfilled after GE14.
“We understand that the people are tired of going through another State Assembly (DUN) election if it is to be held now.
“At the same time we must also give opportunities to the new Central government to work for the people. So I don’t think PRN will be held in the near future,” he said.
He said this to reporters after the prize-giving ceremony in conjunction with the Let’s Pay Land Tax 2023 campaign organized by the Seremban District and Land Office (PDTS) here today.
For the record, PH who became the state government after GE14 decided not to hold PRN simultaneously during GE15.
Ismail who is also a member of the Negeri Sembilan PKR State Leadership Council (MPN) drew attention to the fact that in the past four years, PH has done its best to govern including recording a total investment of about RM30 billion during that period.
he explained, the alliance has also reached a level of 95 percent fulfilling promises after the last general election.
“There are only one or two things that have not been cashed in and we hope that this period of about six months will be used as best as possible to fulfill PH’s promise,” he said.
Asked about discussions with Barisan Nasional (BN) which is now a coalition party with PH to form the central government, Ismail said, he believes negotiations will be held with BN but no date has been set yet.
“Let the respective leaders at the central level consult and make decisions,” he said.
Currently, the members of the state assembly consist of 20 people from PH and 16 from BN.-UTUSAN.
