SEREMBAN: The Negeri Sembilan government today established an operations center that aims to coordinate information and logistics as a preparedness to face disasters.
Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said, known as the Negeri Sembilan Command Center (NeSCOM), the operation center was created with the cooperation of the State Disaster Management Committee involving several related departments.
He explained that relevant data such as river water levels, landslides, road conditions and weather forecasts are collected and then displayed in NeSCOM for disaster preparedness.
“This NeSCOM was also created following the major floods that occurred at the end of 2021 involving several districts, especially Jelebu and early 2022 involving Tampin, Jempol and Kuala Pilah. The extraordinary flood at that time in Negeri Sembilan involved a total of 96 locations.
“This flood incident not only caused the destruction of homes, loss of property but also resulted in the destruction of many infrastructures that were built before. There are areas of land and communication disconnection that is not getting internet coverage due to the electricity supply not working on the existing tower.
“The State Government believes that NeSCOM is an added value to the disaster plan that exists throughout the country. Quick and accurate information can not only help the community but also the security forces working in disaster areas,” he said.
He said this while inaugurating the NeSCOM building located on Jalan Pekeliling here today.
Commenting further, Aminuddin said that an allocation of RM350,000 has been approved under the 2022 Development Budget to upgrade the existing building which used to be the State Secretary’s Club House (SUK) to be used as the operation centre.
“This project took about 16 weeks and was fully completed in early December 2022,” he explained.
Meanwhile, at the event, the Menteri Besar also handed over three lifeboats donated by the state government to the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Negeri Sembilan to strengthen preparedness in the face of disasters.-UTUSAN.
