My priority is to deal with the cost of living – PM

PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim made his commitment as soon as he assumed his duties as Prime Minister to prioritize the issue of dealing with the cost of living that burdens the people at the moment.

He said, although the country’s situation is positive with the strength of the ringgit and the better position of the stock exchange thus showing investors’ confidence in the current government administration, the issue of the cost of living remains the main concern when the price of goods grips and puts pressure on people’s lives.

However, he wanted a more careful discussion and drastic action to be taken to reduce the pressure by holding an urgent meeting with relevant departments and agencies in the near future.

“If you don’t mind, I request a meeting with them (involved departments/agencies) this weekend or at the latest this Monday even though it is a public holiday. But if they object, then I can postpone.

“However, I know the commitment of these officers, they understand the main task of easing the burden faced by the people, especially at the lower level,” he said.

He said this in a press conference after officially starting his duties as the 10th Prime Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, here today. – MESSENGER
