More odor pollution was detected in Jenderam Hilir

SHAH ALAM: The close of 2022 today witnessed a series of river pollution when the Selangor Water Management Board (LUAS) detected odor pollution at a static monitoring location 1.5 kilometers (KM) from the Jenderam Hilir side of the river at 6.30 this afternoon.

According to the LUAS statement, Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn. Bhd. (Selangor Air) was notified for any possibility and preparations at the Water Treatment Plant (LRA).

“Close monitoring is being done by LUAS with a frequency of odor sampling every 15 minutes. The latest reading up to 8.45pm recorded 1 ton,” he said in a statement today.

Previously, the Semenyih and Bukit Tampoi Water Treatment Plants (LRA) were suspended for three days after a perfume essence spill occurred due to the lorry carrying it being involved in an accident near KM 44.1, Lebuhraya Elite near Bandar Serenia, Negeri Sembilan.

LUAS in a statement said that the distance between the location of the accident and the Semenyih LRA is around 6.4km. He explained further, an immediate check at the accident site found a 6 ton smell note.

It is clear from the statement that LUAS increases the placement of the amount activated carbon (AC) at the location and started close monitoring in Sungai Limau Manis which flows into Sungai Semenyih.

“This discovery was immediately after the heavy rain situation this afternoon where the waste stream that was stuck was absorbed in the environment of the Tempohari spill area as well as the river line outside the Selangor state area dissolved together with the rain runoff which then flowed into Sg. Semenih in Selangor.

“With the current weather conditions and the rapid flow of the river, polluted streams are expected flush or dilute within three to four hours,” he said.

He also said that the concession of the North South Highway Project (PLUS) was also requested to immediately suck up the rest of the flow at the accident site.

Utusan Malaysia today reported that the Klang Valley will face the threat of pollution and continuous water supply disruptions due to the region’s development being concentrated in the upper part of the Langat River and Selangor River basins while the main LRA-LRA are located downstream of the river. – MESSENGER
