MFSA aims to send more athletes to the Cambodian SEA Games

SEREMBAN: The national fin swimming team hopes to send more athletes to the Cambodian SEA Games which will take place in the middle of this year.

The president of the Malaysian Finswimming Association (MFSA), S. Ravivarma said, at the 31st SEA Games in Vietnam last year, the Malaysian team had sent five swimmers to participate.

Accordingly, based on the development program that has been carried out by his side, he hopes that more of the country’s new talents in the sport can be sent to gain experience in Cambodia later.

“I hope to increase the number of athletes for them to gain experience. As for the target of any medals, I feel that it is not yet, because we are still new and many more development programs need to be made.

“To say that in order to get a medal, I see that not at this time, we have to develop the grassroots first so that we can build athletes.

“We have received an email from the Malaysian Olympic Council (MOM) for us to send the names of the athletes, we will first look at the list of events, based on that then we plan to send the number of athletes,” he said.

He said this when met by reporters at the First National Level Malaysian Fin Swimming Championship at the State Aquatic Center, Negeri Sembilan here.

The tournament was officiated by the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Adam Adli Abd. Halim.

Meanwhile, Ravivarma said, the association will continue to organize tournaments and programs at the grassroots level for the sport of fin swimming.

“We will continue to develop athletes at the grassroots level, so that when the time comes for Malaysia to host the SEA Games in 2027, we can give competition to other countries,” he added.
