MAVCOM aims to finalize MACPC amendment proposal June

SEPANG: The Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM) aims to finalize the negotiation paper on the proposed amendments to the Malaysian Aviation Consumer Protection Code (MACPC) 2022 by June this year.

According to MAVCOM’s Chief Operating Officer, Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin, his party has held negotiations with stakeholders including airlines regarding MACPC last year.

Therefore, he hopes that a follow-up session with the aviation side can be held this month to discuss matters in the MACPC that need to be refined and improved.

“(After getting) approval from the internal (authorities), we hope it will be gazetted later,” he said at a question and answer session with media practitioners in conjunction with the Airline 101 briefing at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport here today.

In addition to Raja Azmi, also giving a briefing on the aviation industry included, the Chief Executive Officer of Malaysia Aviation Group, Ahmad Luqman Mohd. Azmi and Chief Executive Officer of the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM), Captain Norazman Mahmud.

On 19 October, the media reported that MAVCOM published a consultation paper on proposed amendments to the MACPC and proposed amendments including protections related to refunds, passenger rights, travel passes and flights removed from airline reservation systems due to flight cancellations.

Since the MACPC came into effect in 2016, airlines are required to reimburse flight users in the event that flights are canceled or flight plans are significantly changed.

One of the proposed improvements to MACPC 2022 is refunds in the original payment method for delayed flights. – MESSENGER
