Markiman left the post of President, Selangor returned to PSM

PETALING JAYA: As expected, the Selangor Sepak Takraw Association (PSS) has finally made a U-turn to return with the Malaysian Takraw Sepak Association (PSM) after the dissolution of the Sepak Takraw Federation (Mastaf) last week.

The announcement was made by PSS President, Datuk Markiman Kobiran when chairing the PSS Meeting last Wednesday, and at the same time, Markiman also decided to relinquish the position of president he had held for more than 10 years to a new face.

Thus PSS is expected to be governed by new leadership when the parent body convenes in the Annual General Meeting (AGM) next February.

“I already decided in the meeting we went back to (with PSM) but that doesn’t mean I ran away. In the recent meeting, we have discussed the direction of PSS and also the mandate given to me.

“I will finish at the next General Meeting, which is in January or February. I want the transition between my leadership and the new one to go smoothly. Those who have potential and want to lead, show their respective abilities to be given that mandate later,” explained Markiman.

Selangor’s withdrawal from Mastaf saw that only Labuan, Sarawak and Putrajaya remain who have not yet decided to join PSM.

Previously, the Kedah Takraw Football Association (PESTAK) made a surprise move out of Mastaf to join PSM in July, and five months later, the Perlis Takraw Football Association (PSTPs) followed in the same footsteps.

At the same time, Markiman also expressed his deep disappointment with the political scenario in sepak takraw, forcing Mastaf to be dissolved after only 10 months of establishment.

“I am also disappointed with some other issues such as the struggle to regain the Titiwangsa Sports Complex to be turned into a Sepak Takraw Sports Complex. That’s our plan when trying to take over internally, when PSM’s membership is revoked, we set up a new entity to become the national governing body.

“However, the political scheming and interference of ASTAF (Asian Federation of Trade Unions) and ISTAF (International Trade Union Federation) is too evident so that we find under the game of grabbing power and popularity becoming the main headline in these two parties.

“So, we are big-hearted thinking that if this political, foreign interference continues, then we will not go anywhere. Therefore, I hope that all our ideas to improve sepak takraw can be continued by whoever leads. – ONLINE MESSENGER
