PETALING JAYA: Malaysia will become a great country if Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) join under a coalition that also includes parties from Sabah and Sarawak with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as Prime Minister.
DAP political veteran, Lim Kit Siang who suggested the idea said, Malaysia is now in a new era of coalition politics as the Parliament hangs after voting in the 15th General Election (GE15) yesterday.
“I propose that a coalition government of Pakatan Harapan (82 Members of Parliament), Perikatan Nasional (73 Members of Parliament), and Borneo Block (35 Members of Parliament) under the leadership of Anwar Ibrahim as Prime Minister to form a coalition to restore Malaysia’s decline and make Malaysia a great world-class country and to fight corruption.
“The coalition to make Malaysia great will have 190 Members of Parliament, which is more than two-thirds of the 222 seats in Parliament and can amend the Malaysian Constitution to restore the rights of Sarawak and Sabah to what was enshrined in the 1963 Malaysia Agreement.
“The UMNO-Barisan Nasional coalition has seen its worst defeat in history and Zahid Hamidi should resign as President of UMNO/BN and give space for UMNO/BN to return to the original principles of nation building held by the four earliest UMNO Presidents and national figures such as Onn Jaafar, Tunku Abdul Rahman, Razak Hussein, Hussein Onn, Tan Cheng Lock, Tan Siew Sin, Dr Lim Chong Eu, and VT Sambanthan.
“I have advised Mahathir Mohamad and Tengku Razaleigh to play an advisory role and not contest as candidates in the 15th General Election. If they had listened to my advice, they would have been able to avoid yesterday’s embarrassing incident.
“I started my political journey 57 years ago in the days of UMNO hegemony, where small rifts became a national crisis,” he said in a statement on his blog.
He said, yesterday’s GE15 may seem like a disaster for Malaysia, but it should be seen as a catalyst for Malaysia to become a normal, great and world-class country. –MESSENGER
