Malaysia condemns the Israeli minister’s careless actions on the Al-Aqsa site

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian government today strongly condemned the barbaric act of an Israeli regime minister trespassing into the grounds of the Al-Aqsa Mosque yesterday.

Wisma Putra through a statement here said, the condemned act of the figure is clearly a form of evil provocation on the status quo of the Jerusalem area itself.

“Thus, Malaysia strongly condemns the act of brazen aggression by the minister concerned on the position of the Al-Haram Al-Sharif mosque complex,” he said.

Yesterday, Israel’s Minister of National Security, right-wing Itamar Ben Gvir visited the area which is also referred to by the Jewish community as the Temple Mount.

His right-leaning visit there at 7 am for 15 minutes during the permitted period for the believers sparked protests from many Muslim countries.

In fact, the former Prime Minister and now the leader of the opposition in the Israeli Parliament, Yair Lapid, also criticized the visit as extreme and generated a lot of counter-terrorism.

The US embassy in the illegal country as well as the White House’s own National Security Council warned that his actions could undermine the peace process.

The Jordanian government, which is the custodian of the Al-Aqsa waqf, also criticized Ben Gvir’s visit and summoned the Israeli ambassador in Amman to hand over a diplomatic note of protest.

Commenting further, Wisma Putra added that Malaysia called on the international community to demand that the Zionist regime immediately stop provocations and maintain stability.

“Malaysia also always stands firm in solidarity with the Palestinian people and reiterates its position that the status of Al-Quds Al-Sharif as a holy site for Muslims,” he explained.

At the same time, he said, Malaysia affirmed its unwavering support for the holy struggle of Palestine to achieve freedom from the illegal Israeli occupation.

The government of this country also remains intact in defending the aspiration of Palestinian independence as a sovereign state based on the agreed pre-1967 border map.

Previously, the former Prime Minister of the regime, Ariel Sharon had visited the area in 2000, which caused an uprising or intifada for the second time.

Al-Aqsa Mosque known as Haram al-Sharif, located in the old city of Jerusalem, is the first Qibla of Muslims before switching to the Kaaba in Masjidil Haram, Mecca.

It can accommodate 5,000 pilgrims while its grounds can accommodate 400,000 people and is administered directly by the Jordanian Islamic waqf agency to protect its sanctity.

This site is the third holiest mosque for Muslims after the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina and is the focus of the last 10 nights of Ramadan.

Although Malaysia does not have diplomatic relations with Israel, citizens of this country can go there for religious pilgrimage through special permission from the Immigration Department.

Every year, thousands of Malaysians, whether Muslims or Christians, enter Palestine from Jordan for the purpose of visiting various sacred sites of their respective religions.

However, the Israeli side reserves the right to refuse the entry of Malaysians through strict screening including social media checks if there are messages found to condemn the Zionist regime. – MESSENGER
