MACC detained two civil servants, government retirees

RAUB: Two civil servants and a government pensioner were arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) believed to be involved in receiving ‘bonus’ money to protect the activities of stealing logs and releasing confiscated goods for forestry activities.

Sources said that the first suspect, aged 40, was arrested at the Raub Branch MACC office when he appeared to give evidence at about 2.30pm today.

The second suspect, who is also a 61-year-old government pensioner, was arrested at about 7pm, yesterday.

Both of them are believed to have received bribes of between RM500 and RM2,000 from the owner of a company to protect the activity of stealing logs from forest reserves around Kuala Lipis.

The activities of the two suspects are said to have taken place between November 2019 and 2020.

In the meantime, the third suspect, who is believed to be in his 40s, was arrested at about 7pm last night when he appeared to give evidence at the Raub Branch MACC office.

In a different operation, the suspect was arrested because he was believed to have received bribe money in return for releasing items seized by a government department involved in forestry activities.

According to sources, the suspect received bribes amounting to approximately RM1,500 twice from an individual around December 2018.

Meanwhile, Pahang MACC Director, Hairuzam Mohmad [email protected] when contacted confirmed the arrest.

Hairuzam said the case will be investigated under Section 17 (a) of the MACC Act 2009. – MESSENGER
