WASHINGTON: Famous American television journalist Barbara Walters died at the age of 93.
Walters was a big name who rose up in a male-dominated industry and became the first woman to host a major news show in the US.
Walters has interviewed several US Presidents, foreign leaders such as Anwar Sadat, Fidel Castro and famous celebrities during his five-decade career as a news anchor and journalist.
Walters won 12 Emmy awards, almost all while serving on the ABC network.
“Barbara is a true legend, a pioneer not only for women in journalism but for journalism itself,” said Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, in a statement.
According to CNN, citing its spokeswoman, Cindi Berger, “Walters died peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones.”
