KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Cheng Hoe admitted that he lacked experience playing on the big stage, in addition to a few mistakes that destroyed the Red Giants’ dream of winning the Malaysia Cup for the 34th time.
The Selangor manager, however, was proud of the fierce opposition and beautiful play shown by his men when they lost 2-1 to the ‘star’ team Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) in the final match at Bukit Jalil National Stadium last night.
“They showed a good and entertaining game. We lost tonight due to lack of experience playing on the big stage against opponents.
“Several golden opportunities also failed to be completed, especially in the first half and that may have caused us some issues.
“The game was also of high intensity and there were a few mistakes when we lost focus which caused JDT to score a goal thus affecting our confidence,” he said.
Selangor started well by dominating the game for the first 30 minutes, and even had some golden opportunities but failed to finish.

The Red Giants finally opened the scoring through Herlison Caion’s penalty kick in the 45th minute, but the advantage was erased by Bergson da Silva two minutes later.
Fernando Forestieri emerged as the hero for JDT when he scored the winning goal in the 59th minute, thus seeing the South Tigers squad create history as the first team to bag all four trophies offered in the local league. – ONLINE MESSENGER
