RIYADH: The government of Saudi Arabia declared a public holiday tomorrow, Wednesday, to celebrate the success of the Saudi Arabia national football team defeating the two-time world champions, Argentina in the opening action of Group C at the Qatar World Cup.
The declaration of the public holiday was ordered by the King of Saudi Arabia, King Salman Abdulaziz al-Saud and it is subject to all government and private sector workers, as well as students throughout the country.
Saudi Arabia pulled off the biggest surprise in the history of hosting the World Cup when they won 2-1 thanks to goals from Saleh Al Shehri and Salem Aldawsari in the second half of the game.
The team nicknamed The Falcons (Sang Helang) will meet the Mexican team for the second group action on Saturday.
