JAKARTA: A J&T Express courier worker was reported to have run away with 531 million rupiah (RM151,583) of the company’s money.
After stealing the money, the employee allegedly used it to buy a low-cost house in Bekasi, West Java.
West Jakarta Metro police spokesperson Avrilendy confirmed the report and stated that the suspect is believed not to have spent the money.
“Part of it was also used to buy furniture to be placed in his new home.
“The money stolen by the suspect is the profit of the branch office that will be sent to the main office of J&T Express,” he said.
Avrilendy explained that the suspect was assigned to bring the money to the J&T headquarters last week before taking it away.
The suspect then fled to Bekasi, but was arrested by the police yesterday.
“When questioned, the suspect said he had bought a house and some furniture using the money,” Avrilendy said.
If convicted, the suspect can be sentenced to five years in prison.
