JDT won, ‘mercy’ for Sabah FC

KUALA LUMPUR: The success of Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) in winning the Malaysia Cup 2022 also gave ‘grace’ to Sabah FC when it paved the way for the Sang Badak squad to play in the AFC Cup next season.

Sabah expects Selangor to beat JDT at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium tonight to allow them to grab the last slot from Malaysia to the second class competition of the Asia League.

Selangor started fiercely and looked to be in a good position to lift the Malaysia Cup, thus grabbing the ticket to the AFC Cup after taking the lead through Herlison Caion’s penalty kick in the 45th minute.

However, Bergson da Silva’s goal in the 45th minute, followed by Fernando Forestieri’s goal, ensured the South Tigers’ victory.

JDT, who previously won the Super League for the ninth consecutive season, will play in the Asian Champions League next season.

Sabah FC who occupy the third place in the Super League will accompany the runner-up, Terengganu FC to compete in the AFC Cup. – ONLINE MESSENGER
