It is forbidden for Muslims to act as an angel – Mufti

PUTRAJAYA: Muslims are prohibited from portraying the character of an angel in a play because it will open up space for malicious people to insult Islam.

The matter was explained by the Office of the Mufti of the Federal Territory (PMWP) through the latest article Irshad Al-Fatwa issued today.

According to him, all images of angels in the play that do not coincide with the Quran and Sunnah are prohibited.

“This prohibition includes words or actions such as drawing, acting, speaking or otherwise.

“Playing an angel in a movie indirectly lowers the position of an angel as a holy being.

“This contradicts the presence of angels who are only known through revelation from Allah SWT,” he said.

He said, angels are creatures that have their position and privilege in Islam because they are obedient creatures in carrying out the commands of Allah SWT.

In the meantime, PMWP said, human acting resembling angels has been adapted in western films for a long time.

“It is very sad if the Muslim community imitates the way of thinking of the Westerners,” he said.

He said, the Council of Senior Scholars of Saudi Arabia explained the fatwa that portraying the character of prophets, angels, Khulafa’ ar-Rashidin and companions is a reprehensible act.

The ban on acting as an angel also coincides with the 2015 Content Censorship Guidelines for Islamic Broadcasting Materials.

The criteria for filtering multimedia materials and broadcasts with Islamic elements outline that ‘do not act or depict any illustrations or characters of prophets, angels, devils and matters of Sam’iyyat and Ghaibiyyat.

Before this, the Muslim community in this country was shocked by a film where the Muslim male actor played the role of an angel in the film. – MESSENGER
