PROGRAM Enterprise 50 (E50) organized by SME Corp Malaysia which recognizes the achievements of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), recorded the number of female entrepreneurs who increased by almost 100 percent this year.
Chief Executive Officer, Rizal Nainy said, of the 50 companies selected as winners in the E50 Awards culminating event that will take place on Friday night, a total of 21 entrepreneurs are women compared to only 11 in 2019.
“After five series of tours around Malaysia by zone, the number of female entrepreneurs participating increased significantly by 98 to 100 percent this year compared to 2019,” he said at a press conference on the E50 Awards here, on Friday.
The event was not held in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Ryzal said, the event run by SME Corp, which is also an agency under the Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Cooperative Development (KUSKOP) also saw recognition through the Best Female Entrepreneur Award and the Best Export Entrepreneur Award E50.
Of the 50 companies for this year’s E50 Awards, a total of 10 top winners have been announced with 52 percent from the manufacturing sector and 48 percent from the service sector respectively.
“SME Corp also for the first time introduced the E50 Best Export Entrepreneur Award to recognize the contribution of SMEs to gross domestic product (GDP) especially in the post-Covid-19 era,” he said.
According to Rizal, only companies with a rating of 4 and 5 stars under the SME Competitiveness Rating Evaluation Program for Improvement (SCORE) are eligible to participate in this program.
He said, this year also recorded 213 entries which is the highest since it was introduced in 1997 with 63 companies going through the evaluation process to select the top 50 companies.
The evaluation process was carried out by Deloitte Malaysia and strategic partners based on various measuring aspects, such as business processes, market existence, financial position and adoption of digitalization in their respective companies.
The E50 Awards have been accredited as the leading awards that symbolize achievement in business and entrepreneurship.
It is also a recognition to encourage SMEs to implement changes and aspects of competitiveness to reinvigorate the country’s economic growth as a whole. – Named
