KUANTAN: A housewife was forced to white her eyes after her bank account balance was empty as a result of being cheated by individuals posing as Touch N Go representatives.
The state police chief, Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf, said the 36-year-old housewife lost her entire savings amounting to RM21,399 after handing over the automatic teller machine (ATM) card number and transaction confirmation code (TAC) number to the suspect.
He said the incident happened last Thursday when the victim received a phone call from the suspect informing him that his E-Wallet account had expired.
“The suspect also informed the victim that there are 750 points that have not been claimed.
“The woman was deceived by the suspect’s words and gave the ATM card number and the TAC number when the suspect allegedly asked to help the victim to redeem the points,” he said in a statement here today.
Ramli said the victim reportedly handed over seven different TAC numbers to the suspect before realizing he had been cheated.
“The victim then made a police report and the case was investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code,” he said.
He advises people who receive suspicious calls to immediately check with the police or government agencies concerned to avoid becoming victims of fraud. – MESSENGER
