Emman wants to prove that Malaysia can reach the world wrestling stage

KUALA LUMPUR: After creating history by becoming the first Malaysian to win the Melbourne City Wrestling (MCW) Intercommonwealth championship, Emman Azman is determined to retain his championship in the Championship Wrestling Southeast Asia in Singapore, this January.

Admitting it was a difficult challenge, he has now started training so that the Jalur Gemilang can continue to fly proudly abroad.

“I am very proud to be the first Malaysian to win a wrestling championship abroad and bring home the MCW belt.

“The challenge is that this wrestling tournament has no body classes, so we will find various physical forms. I was worried at first, but the enthusiasm to bring the medal home to Malaysia is greater,” he said.

Emman, nicknamed the Golden Boy, arrived from Australia and was greeted by the Executive Officer of My Pro Wrestling (MYPW), Datin Maria Abdullah at the KLIA arrival hall at 2.55am yesterday.

At the tournament held last November 26, he defeated two wrestlers, Mick Moretti and Adam Brooks.

Speaking about his future mission, Emman said, he wants to become a professional wrestler and bring the country’s name to the world stage.

“I want to wrestle in Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Australia and wherever Emman can take this belt. God willing in Japan and the United States as well.

“Emman wants to represent Malaysia in wrestling such as WWE (Worldwide Wrestling Entertainment) or New Japan Pro Wrestling,” he said.

Emman was among the first four students at MYPW when he started his career in 2014, when he was 13 years old. Now, there are over 20 students at MYPW.

After this, Emman will compete in Singapore Pro Wrestling (SPW) in Singapore on January 27, followed by a tournament in Thailand the day after. – MESSENGER
