Elderly man dies, wife injured in four-vehicle crash

TAPAH: An elderly man died in an accident involving four vehicles at Kilometer 358.7, North-South Highway heading north here this afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Liew Kim Fah, 71, the driver of a Mazda CX-5 while his wife, Oo Yop Chu @ Ho Yeh Choo, 59, was seriously injured.

Perak Police Chief, Datuk Seri Mohd. Yusri Hassan Basri said that information about the incident involving the four vehicles was received at 5.25pm.

He said, the initial investigation found that a Hilux type vehicle owned by Plus Ronda had stopped in the emergency lane to help a Suzuki Swift type car that had a flat tire.

“The incident happened when a Mazda CX-5 car traveling from Kuala Lumpur to Ipoh hit the back of a Hilux.

“The violation caused the Hilux to hit the back of the Suzuki Swift while the Mazda car driven by the elderly man veered to the right of the road and was hit from behind by a Kia Optima car,” he said in his statement here today.

According to him, the Mazda driver was seriously injured and was pronounced dead at the scene while his wife who was injured in the head was referred to Slim River Hospital for treatment.

He said, in the incident, the driver and passengers of the other vehicle did not suffer any injuries.

“The victim who died was taken to Tapah Hospital for an autopsy. The investigation of the case is conducted in accordance with Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said.

Meanwhile, Twitter @Plustrafik in its tweet at 7.32pm said that traffic was congested for six kilometers but the left lane had been opened to reduce congestion.
