PETALING JAYA: Due to the Bukit Jalil National Stadium ‘losing’ 21,000 seats for the AFF Cup action this Saturday due to the structure of the Jay Chou concert stage which is in the process of being installed, the social media account of the famous Taiwanese singer was ‘attacked’ by Malaysian netizens.
Yesterday, the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) confirmed that of the 80,000 capacity, only 59,000 tickets will be offered because 21,000 seats had to be ‘sacrificed’ due to being obstructed by the structure of the Jay Chou concert stage which will take place on 15 January.
The matter did not make football fans happy because the demand to watch the first half of the AFF Cup 2022 was very high, even the last match of Group B against Singapore yesterday recorded 65,147 spectators.
“Having to attack… This stadium has a football field so the ball should be prioritized not the concert. There is a brain, use your mind, don’t use your head and knees,” said a fan on Jaychou’s official Instagram.
“The purpose of the stadium was built to watch sports not to sing…,” said another Instagram owner.
Looking at the comment section of the 43-year-old singer, Malaysian netizens were seen arguing with each other with many defending the decision of the Malaysian Stadium Corporation (PSM) to allow the concert to continue.
Some say that the stadium has been booked for the past three years, and even all the tickets have been sold out, but it can only continue this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Thousands of Jay Chou’s fans have been waiting for this concert for three years, it’s impossible to cancel it, you guys don’t make a fuss here. Rude football fans, please get out of here,” wrote one Instagram account owner.
“This stadium was booked 3 years ago, but due to the impact of the epidemic, Jay Chou’s concert in Malaysia was postponed for three years. And all tickets are sold out. first come first…,” said another fan.
“To fans dear football, this concert has been postponed for 3 years due to Covid, and the date of the concert has now been set since 1 year ago, fans from Malaysia and abroad have been waiting for this concert many years ago. Problem vacant seat 21,000 is not Jay Chou’s fault, but the stadium management is in charge events stadium. Please stop your hate comments to the singer/legendary musician this. Thank you,” said another fan.
Malaysian football fans are very excited to support Harimau Malaya in the semi-finals of the AFF Cup as their presence clearly boosted the players’ spirits when they beat Singapore 4-1.
In fact, Malaysia also beat Laos 5-0 at the same stadium in the second match of Group B, last month.
Harimau Malaya will face a tough task in the second semi-final of the AFF Cup when they visit the ‘home’ of Thailand in Bangkok, next Tuesday, so they need to win the action in Bukit Jalil to bring the best supply.
The last time Malaysia brought home the AFF Cup was in 2010. – ONLINE MESSENGER
