ALOR SETAR: Two men were remanded for four days to assist in the investigation of a case of submitting false claims related to incentive payments for dairy cattle breeding in 2015.
The remand order was issued by Magistrate Nurshahida Abdul Rahim at the Alor Setar Court here today.
The two individuals in question, consisting of directors and owners of two different companies, were arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at two separate locations yesterday.
The first suspect, a 51-year-old company director, was arrested at the Kedah MACC Office at about 1pm while the 52-year-old company owner was arrested in Simpang Renggam, Johor two hours later.
Both of them were taken to the Alor Setar Court Complex in a MACC vehicle at about 10 am this morning wearing MACC lock-up shirts.
Their arrest follows an MACC investigation into several companies suspected of conspiring to submit claims related to incentives under the initial project program (EPP) 13 Dairy Cluster, Economic Transformation Plan (ETP) worth RM20.3 million.
However, no supply was implemented even though a demand was made.
Sources informed that MACC is currently actively tracking witnesses and taking statements from other individuals who are believed to be able to assist the investigation.
Meanwhile, Kedah MACC Director, Datuk Shaharom Nizam Abd. Manap confirmed the arrest of the two individuals concerned but refused to comment further and informed that the case is still being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009. – UTUSAN
