Davis knocks Garcia down

WASHINGTON: United States (US) boxing champion Gervonta Davis performed an extraordinary act when he successfully defended his WBA lightweight title after knocking out Hector Luis Garcia at the Capital One Arena, Washington, US, late last night.

The 28-year-old boxer who knocked out Garcia in the eighth round went on to extend his unbeaten record to 28-0 with 26 knockouts (KOs).

Davis’ left hand punch in the eighth round clearly affected Garcia and failed to continue the 12-round fight.

Garcia is said to have vision problems due to the punch and was unable to continue round 9 before losing by technical knockout (TKO).

“I know he (Garcia) is injured and badly injured. He’s a fighter, and doesn’t even want to show it in this match.

“Before the game I knew to handle him but not in that way, where I thought he was going to get back on the court again,” Davis said.

Right after the victory, Davis revealed that he is ready to face Ryan Garcia in April.

“I am ready to fight and my fight with Ryan will start in April. I hope he’s ready,” Davis said. – AGENCIES
