Datuk, former NGO treasurer remanded for 7 days


JOHOR BAHRU: A former chairman of a non-governmental organization (NGO) with the title Datuk was remanded for seven days to assist in the investigation of a case of submitting a false claim amounting to RM11,000 to a government department, two years ago.

The individual had previously contested during the Johor State Election (PRN) in March last year on the ticket of a local political party. Also remanded to help investigate the case is the former treasurer of the same NGO.

The remand order against the two suspects was issued by Magistrate Mohd. Zulhilmi Ibrahim.

The two suspects arrived at the court yard at 9.20am wearing MACC lock-up clothes and handcuffs.

The 47-year-old Datuk and the 43-year-old former treasurer were detained at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Johor office between 8.30pm and 9.30pm last night after they appeared to testify.

The two suspects are suspected of submitting false claims to a government department in this district at the end of January 2021 related to supply work in implementing treatment and rehabilitation programs, while the supply work was not carried out.

Meanwhile, Johor MACC Director, Datuk Azmi Alias ​​when contacted confirmed the arrest involved and that the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009. – UTUSAN
